Triathlon Training?

Tyler and I woke up on time this morning and got to the gym in good time to. We have a new system, where we leave the alarm clock on the dresser across the room, so that in order to turn it off (and man is it annoying) we actually have to get out of bed. I usually let Tyler turn it off and then follow him out of bed, I’m sure he just loves that, hehe.

Anyways, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about signing up for either a longer distance race or a traithlon. I’m very tempted to try a Sprint Tri which consists of roughly .47 mile swim, 12.4 mile bike, 3.1 mile run. Anyways, out of curiousity I decided yesterday that I would run and swim today. I ran about 3.1 miles (probably slightly less) in 25:47. Then I swam 1000 meters in the pool. I broke up the swim into 5 200 meter segments with a 1 minute rest between (2 minutes for one break because Tyler was leaving and I had to ask what he wanted for dinner).

  • 200 meters breast stroke
  • 200 meters with the kickboard alternating breast stroke and freestyle every 50 meters
  • 200 meters with the leg floatie? (just arms) alternating breast stroke and freestyle every 50 meters
  • 200 meters alternating breast stroke and freestyle every 50 meters
  • 200 meters breast stroke practicing flip turns (I used to be able to do these in middle school…now, not so much, I need practice!)

I also jogged a few laps to cool down after my run and did a few agility drills with Tyler after the cool down. Altogether, it was a GREAT workout, I’m definitely tired, but I feel sufficiently recovered and like I could do it again tomorrow and not feel like I was over doing it.

I knew I needed a good breakfast after that workout and I felt really satisfied yesterday, so I went for the same.

A Yoplait Light Thick and Creamy French Vanilla Yogurt, a little over a 1/4 cup homemade granola, and 2.5 oz of blueberries! This may be my new favorite breakfast!

I wanted to mention also that I have been feeling really good the past week or so and I really think it is because my body is happy with the changes I have made in my diet. I feel really satisfied after my meals and they taste good, and I’ve been eating so much less junk than before! I’m surprised, but I’m not even craving candy like I thought I would be. Now chocolate that is another story, but I don’t feel guilty and feel like it is unhealthy for me to have some dark chocolate for dessert some days of the week. I just feel good right now and I think its a combination of the challenging running and workouts and the better eating habits.

I can’t imagine ending my time at Hope in a better way.

And for my last ramble of the morning…

I’m going for a haircut at 11, and I’m extremely nervous. I haven’t had a haircut in well about 12 months (disgusting I know). I tend to steer clear of things that cause me any sort of trauma, for example the second to last time I went to the dentist they “discovered” a growth in my mouth that they demanded I have removed, may I mention that this was something that I knew was there for at least the past 8 years and was not concerned about at all. So I had it removed, it was painful and I was on painkillers for like 2 weeks dealing with it, not my idea of fun, and it turned out to be tonsil tissue (yes I had tonsil tissue in a place that was not a tonsil, I am an anomaly). Needless to say I didn’t go back to the dentist for another year. Who knew what new problem he was going to come up with at the next visit. Now to relate this to my current fear of haircuts—the last time I got my haircut, right about this time last year, I made the brilliant decision that I would get bangs. BIG MISTAKE. I didn’t think they looked that bad, but Tyler teased me about them constantly and so I ended up hating my hair for about 9 months until they finally grew out enough to be manageable. So yes I have an irrational fear of haircuts that I hope can be alleviated this time around. That being said, I have NO IDEA what to have my stylist do with my hair. I want something new, but something easy to take care of (summer and law school=no time for hair). Hopefully, I will have some sort of hair style epiphany before 11am.
