Last Friday, Tyler and I packed up my Mazda 6 and started our road trip to Sacramento. We drove all the way to South Dakota right near the Badlands, where we stopped and slept in the car at a scenic overlook.
Saturday we visited and hiked the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Jewel Caves then drove to Wyoming where we camped for the night. We also stopped in Custer, SD for a buffalo burger!
Sunday we drove the ridiculously long scenic route going through Wyoming and Montana to Yellowstone National Park. We spent the days looking at the different sites in Yellowstone, hiking, and checking out the awesome wildlife. We camped outside Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Monday we drove from Jackson Hole to Utah and stopped in a small town in Utah and in Park City where we ate lunch and picked up salads for dinner at the Whole Foods! We drove through Nevada to Lake Tahoe in California where we camped for the night.
Tuesday we woke up and got breakfast in Tahoe, then drove to South Tahoe where we hiked to Cascade Falls and then up to a peak between two taller mountain peaks. It was an AMAZING hike!
After our hike we drove to Sacramento and checked in to our apartment.
Unfortunately on Tuesday we also got news that our furniture which was supposed to have been loaded onto Mayflower moving trucks on July 27th was not loaded until the 3rd of August. Anyone else see a problem here? We were scheduled to have the furniture delivered the 5th however that was impossible so they moved our delivery date to the 8th (the day of my brother’s wedding).
It’s been a very frustrating few days trying to figure out how to remedy this disgusting situation. After a long day of flying my dad picked me up in St. Louis and drove us back to Springfield. We went to dinner tonight at my favorite restaurant the Magic Kitchen (a dumpy little Thai restaurant), for my mom’s birthday. This was probably my last time ever eating at the Magic Kitchen and it was pretty bittersweet I must say. Tomorrow we’ll all be getting ready for my brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner tomorrow and wedding Saturday. Tyler offered to reschedule his flight and stay in Sacramento to accept the delivery of the furniture, so he is in Sacramento until Saturday and has to miss the wedding. He is such an amazing fiancé for volunteering to stay in Sac, so that I could go to the wedding!
I’m still a bit in shock that all the plans that I thought were pretty foolproof have fallen apart so completely, and honestly I’m very emotional. It is very upsetting to me that Tyler has to miss this important event because the moving company couldn’t get their act together and failed to inform us of the changes they had made to our shipment (had my mom not called them on Tuesday to check on our delivery, we would have been waiting yesterday expecting a furniture delivery, they literally did not tell us ANYTHING AT ALL!).
On a positive note, I am glad I got to spent part of my mom’s birthday with her! She has been so helpful the past few days contacting the movers and trying to help me straighten things out! She is such a strong woman and I wish her a very very happy birthday!
I’m sorry if this post is a bit ranty or even pessimistic, I just wanted to let you all know why I haven’t been posting (because Murphy’s Law came down on my head) or commenting on your blogs!
I plan on recapping the trip complete with photos (because we took some amazing ones!) but that will have to wait until after the wedding and my registration for law school on Tuesday of next week.
Thanks for understanding!

I’m sorry things have been so stressful! Hope all works out and looking forward to seeing lots of pics!
