Happy Columbus Day!

I started off my non-holiday (we didn’t get the day off from classes) with a strength workout.

I did 3 sets of these arm and back  moves, 1st set with 5 lb weights, 2nd & 3rd sets with 3 lb weights:

  • 15 bicep curls
  • 15 overhead presses
  • 15 tricep kickbacks
  • 15 rows
  • 15 forward bends with a flat back

I also did 2 sets of these leg moves (no weights involved)

  • 15 “fire hydrants” each per leg (that’s what I’m going to call this movement from now on I get on all fours and life my leg to the side like a dog marking his territory)
  • 15 back leg extensions each per leg (again on all fours – I simply extend my leg backwards
  • 15 leg lifts each per leg

I’m doing good on two of my goals for the week, strength training and hip exercises (the leg workout above).

For breakfast I had a Chobani Blueberry 0% Greek Yogurt with 2/3 serving 365 High Fiber Cereal and some green tea with honey. (The yogurt was one of the free ones that I received from the company).

This was another good flavor of Chobani. Blueberry isn’t usually a yogurt flavor I would choose, but I can honestly say this one was pretty good. The addition of the high fiber cereal made the flavors resemble a blueberry bran muffin. I love blueberry muffins so this definitely worked for me!

The nutrition facts are great, per usual – 140 calories and 14 g of protein in 6 oz. I can’t think of an easier or lower calorie way to get a good amount of protein in my breakfast.

The only downfall was that the blueberries in the yogurt were a little watery.

I would definitely still buy and eat this flavor, especially if I predicted a craving for a blueberry bran muffin in my future!

Class went well today, we’re discussing very interesting material – duty – so I’m enjoying the reading and discussion a lot! After class Julia (the other one not me lol) surprised me and Megan with some fantastic German goodies! Her dad just got back from a trip there and brought back some Haribo, Kinder, and these amazing cookies!

I had a small piece of Kinder Bueno and one of these cookies – the chocolate in the middle – delicious!

Thanks again Julia!

I was supposed to meet someone for lunch today, but didn’t hear from them that they weren’t coming until a half hour after we were supposed to have met at the restaurant.

I was definitely a little put off by this – I basically wasted over an hour of my time driving downtown, parking, and then waiting, for no reason. Not only that but I payed $5 for a parking spot that I only used for about 30 minutes. I also almost drove down a one-way street on the way to the restaurant while searching for a parking spot. That was extremely unnerving.

Has anyone ever put you in a situation like that where they didn’t let you know they wouldn’t be able to make it to something until you were already there?

As a result of this mishap I came home very upset (stressful driving + getting blown off), and needing comfort food, which I eventually sought.

Lunch was a hugh jass salad with romaine, mushrooms, red peppers, cucumbers, grated english cheddar, croutons, Annie’s Lite Honey Mustard Dressing.

After lunch I sought comfort in some Haribo Goldbären (Gold Bears) & Haribo Kinder Schnuller (no idea what the translation is for this one).

And some meringues.

Sugar doesn’t heal hurt feelings unfortunately.

Dinner was leftovers from last night’s Annie’s Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells and Extra Cheesy Cheddar with broccoli, I also added a little extra grated english cheddar on top – yum!

For dessert I got my bake on making an apple crisp inspired by a peach crisp that Meghann made in August!

Simple Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples cut into small pieces (about 10 oz of apple total)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbs. real maple syrup
  • 1.5 Tbs. I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter
  • .5 cup oats
  • 1 Tbs. brown sugar

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Spray a bread loaf pan with cooking spray
  • Combine apples, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Stir to coat the apples with the maple syrup and cinnamon.
  • In a second bowl, combine the oats, butter, and brown sugar. Stir to combine everything together.
  • Put the apples in the greased bread pan.
  • Over the apples, spread the oat topping evenly.
  • Place pan in the oven, and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Makes 2-4 servings.

I made in into 2 servings : ) and topped mine with some Dreyer’s Caramel Pecan Praline Crunch ice cream! Yummy!

I’ll definitely be making this again, maybe when Tyler is here!

I’m off to bed. Hope you all had a good Columbus Day!

So sorry to hear about that lunch. That does seem very annoying.

I hope your friend had a good excuse for not showing up! I hate that! I have a flaky friend that I always worry will stand me up, but hasn’t… yet. She’s getting better. :)

That sucks that you friend bailed on you like that. Not too considerate! I wish sugar healed hurt feelings, oh well. That crisp looks lovely by the way.
