Welcome my friends to Law school reading week.
In order to instill adequate fear and maybe provide us time to catch up on the heinously long reading assignments that we were unable to finish previously (my bet is on the first line of reasoning), the law school administration provides a full week free of regularly scheduled classes between Thanksgiving and our first final exam, which they refer to as “Reading Week”.
It has only begun, and already I am worn out. Perhaps, in future years I will appreciate reading week for the time it gives us to catch up, however, right now it seems like a bit of sick joke, a week-long reminder of how impossible it will be to learn everything we need to know for exams.
I started my day off fairly normally, I woke up, laid in bed for a few extra minutes, and then walked down the stairs to the chair-and-a-half where I sat down to check my email.
A little later I made myself some breakfast. A plain Chobani yogurt with Kashi Heart to Heart, and a cut up apple.

Delicious and filling, with just the right amount of sweetness from the apple.
I spent a little too much time perusing various websites, mainly facebook and theknot.com (what bride-to-be doesn’t spend too much time on theknot.com?). I also spent quite a bit of time calculating my expenses for December, including Christmas gifts. I was able to determine how much I can spend on groceries, restaurants, gifts, entertainment, and other miscellaneous expenses. I’ll be on a very tight budget this month for things like food and entertainment, so I apologize if my eats are less exciting, and are things you have seen before.
Lunchtime rolled around, but I wasn’t super hungry so I made a light lunch of baby carrots, peanut butter, and half a serving of Newman’s Own Organics Barbeque Soy Crisps.

These soy crips are delicious. They have just the right amount of barbeque flavor, they are very crisp, and they pack a protein punch. Love ‘em.
After lunch I drove to campus for a beating meeting with my Contracts professor with Julia and Megan. We asked a lot of questions, which were answered somewhat indirectly, but still answered.
We made plans to do dinner, then I headed to the McGeorge gym for a good workout. I got in a great workout despite feeling exhausted and sore. I started with 32 minutes on the treadmill (3.55 miles), then did 33 minutes on the elliptical at level 7, and finished with 17 minutes on the recumbent bicycle on level 5. A grand total of 82 minutes of cardio. I love a good workout!
I mowed down this Apple Pie LaraBar in the car on the way back home.

When I got home, I wasn’t feeling very well, and after considering the budget I made this morning, I decided dinner out wasn’t for me. Good thing I have understanding friends. I had another snack, another half serving of Barbeque Soy Crisps to tide me over until dinner.

I hadn’t had a veggie burger in a long time, so one made an appearance at dinner. I had a Vegan Boca Burger with 1 oz cheddar cheese, ketchup, and mustard, on an Orowheat Thin, along with baby carrots, celery sticks, and some TJ’s Low Fat Ranch dressing for dipping.

An hour or two after dinner, and after House M.D., I put together some dessert: 1.5 servings of Newman’s Own Organics Thin Stick Pretzels, half a bar of Newman’s Own Organics Signature Series Super Dark Chocolate, and half a serving of Newman’s Own Organics Organic Cranberries (all these Newman’s Own Organics are from the free package I received – just to remind ya).

Now’s it’s time for Trauma and studying (and I meant Trauma the tv show, not the trauma of studying – although it is pretty traumatic).
Hopefully you noticed that there wasn’t a plethora of desserts/sweets in my meals today. I’ve come up with a new guideline for myself to encourage eating more “real” foods and fewer processed desserts. The daily goal is to eat fewer than 250 calories in desserts/treats (such as brownies, chocolate, cookies, etc.) I met that goal today, and I feel more satisfied from what I ate. I think by replacing those empty calories with real food, I’ll be less tempted to eat more at night.
Well friends, I’m off to READ! Have a great night!
