Marathon Envy

Today was the California International Marathon in Sacramento. I was very jealous that I wasn’t running it. I decided to go for my own run, only to discover that the only way to get to the trail was blocked by the Marathon.

After my failed running attempt, I went back home and made myself some brunch. I heated up the last of the Almost Whole Wheat Pumpkin Pancakes, and topped them with syrup, and walnuts like I did last time.

These are definitely the perfect comfort food! I could really taste the pumpkin flavor this time, because I was looking for it more.

After studying for contracts, I bit the bullet, got my running stuff back on and drove to the trail. My motivation to run was at an all time low, so I aimed for four miles and set out at a much slower pace than usual. It felt good to run, although it was super windy, so once I hit 4 I decided to go one more. I ended up running 5.1 miles in 47:15 minutes. I walked for another 5 minutes back to my car and then stretched and headed back home.

After a shower I had a large afternoon snack of an apple, Kashi TLC Country Cheddar Crackers, and Newman’s Own Organics Champion Chip Double Chocolate Mint Chip Cookies.

I spent the rest of the afternoon studying, watching a movie, and messing around online.

When dinner time rolled around, I threw together something to use up some random things in my pantry. I made 2 oz of whole wheat pasta. For a sauce, I cooked 1/2 can diced tomatoes and 1/4 can garbanzo beans, and seasoned it with garlic powder, Italian Seasoning, and a little parmesan cheese. I topped the pasta with the sauce and grated a little parmesan over the top.

This wasn’t my favorite dinner – I’m a little picky about Italian style food, like pasta with red sauces – but it wasn’t terrible. The garbanzo beans (chickpeas)  still had quite a bite to them, which I was disappointed with. The flavors though were good, so it wasn’t a complete disaster.

Dessert was more of snack plate. I had a serving of Trader Joe’s Honey Whole Wheat Pretzel Sticks, half a serving of Newman’s Own Organics Organic Cranberries, and half a serving of Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Covered Blueberries. I also had a mug of Land O Lake’s Hazelnut Hot Chocolate. The Hazelnut flavoring made it extra yummy!

Well friends, I’m going to go finish watching Desperate Housewives – this episode is really good!

Do ever get runner’s envy or race envy when there is a race you can’t run, or when you’re out and see someone else running? I know I do!

I get envious of these Southern runners who have warm weather to enjoy while I’m in chilly New England. And it seems racers are harder to find around here, otherwise I might try them more

I am usually in the back of the pack at 5k’s so I wish sometimes I could be more in the middle!

But then I see the people on the side lines, and at least I am running! :D

I had runner’s envy SO BAD this summer when my shin was all messed up. I would have been frustrated with the trail not being open! Happy you were able to get back out there :)

Sorry you couldn’t run that race!! But I’m glad you got your first law exam over and done with–while fueling with some DELICIOUS (as always) eats!
